The 2023 iDO Preconference Workshop will cover the basics of delirium prevention, identification, and management in line with the Delirium Clinical Care Standard (DCCS). The day will feature lectures from local and internationally renowned experts in delirium, followed by four simulations of scenarios clinicians may encounter in day-to-day work. Simulations will target aspects of care such as use of screening tools and recognition of delirium in complex patients; communication with patients’, families, and carers; and responding to patients with delirium. The workshop also aims to enhance understanding and communication between allied health, nursing, and medical officers to improve delirium outcomes.

This full-day workshop was developed by the American Delirium Society and Critical Illness, Brain dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center at Vanderbilt University. It equips participants with the skills necessary to develop and lead a delirium-related quality improvement project within their clinical setting. Specific focus areas include orientation to quality improvement methods, project design and approach, team development and stakeholder identification, communication strategies, data collection and measures, data analysis, sustainability, and dissemination. The workshop will include lectures, case spotlights, and small group work. This workshop will provide opportunity for robust brainstorming and discussion of key quality improvement methods and implementing new evidence-based practices, and strategies to improve patient care.
